What makes La La Land the favorite of the 2017 Oscars?

The public's bets on La Land as the favorite of the 89th Oscars were confirmed. This morning Damien Chazelle's film, also behind Whiplash, which honors the musicals of the Golden Age in Hollywood, won 14 nominations, a record that had only reached All About Eve (1950) and Titanic (1997).
