Hurricane Katrina hero accompanies a girl gala who rescued

A Junior Gaming Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Gala in Mississippi will have two outstanding guests this year: a 14-year-old girl rescued from the floods caused by Hurricane Katrina and The parachutist who saved her.

Since Mike Maroney rescued LaShay Brown in 2005, he never forgot the effusive embrace she gave him. That moment, captured in a photograph that took him around the world and won several prizes, was a balm for Maroney's soul in the later days since - although his face of joy in that photo (below) did not show it - he suffered Of posttraumatic stress syndrome.

According to People magazine, after the rescue, the US Army Air Force sergeant was sent back to Iraq and Afghanistan and took that photo to remember that special moment in his life. Over time, she tried to find the girl again and even launched a campaign on social networks using the tag #FindKatrinaGirl (#Let FindNot AddKatrina).

After 10 years of searching, she finally reunited with her again in the fall of 2015 on The Real (FOX) program where she shocked the audience by confessing to Brown: "You rescued me, more than I rescued you to you".

Since then, the young woman and her rescuer keep in touch weekly and have developed a beautiful friendship. He even visited Brown and his family in Mississippi - and he even taught her how to swim. Thanks to her influence, she joined the Air Force-sponsored JROTC program to train youth interested in joining the military reserve at a Mississippi high school.

When she learned that there would be a JROTC gala party, the girl thought she could not have a better mate than the man who saved her life. About the impact she has had on the young woman's life, Maroney says: "Life at the service of the planet is important, whether serving in the military or as a teacher, nurse or volunteer. Service makes life much more appreciated. "
