8-year-old girl dies after car crash
A nightmare lives in the family of 8-year-old De'Maree Atkins, after a guy shoots his mother's car, Latoyia Thomas, just moments after another car hits them.
The horrible episode took place early on Saturday and according to a Houston City Police Department report, the girl was sleeping in the backseat of the vehicle, a Honda Accord, when they were hit by a white Pontiac that was passing through high speed.
Apparently another car, also circulating over the allowed limit, was accompanying the culprit of the accident. After the crash, the two cars fled.
Suddenly, a third vehicle stopped just behind Thomas' car. "After the crash, an unidentified person opened fire on the Honda, wounding De'Maree," reads the police report.
After the attack, the suspects fled the scene, leaving the girl in critical condition. "The paramedics took the girl to the hospital, where she died because of her injuries," the report adds.
"I would tell her to stay with me, stay with me," the inconsolable mother told the Houston Chronicle in an interview about the moment she noticed her daughter's injuries.
The motives for the crime are still unknown and the investigating authorities do not have any suspects in custody at the moment. A reward of $ 5,000 has been offered to any citizen who can provide information that leads to the capture of those responsible.
Likewise, the girl's family has started a campaign on the GoFundMe online site to raise funds and help with funeral expenses.
