Lin-Manuel Miranda on his Oscar nomination: 'I'm excited to be able to attend the gala'
As a child, the artist of Puerto Rican origin used to record the ceremonies of delivery of the Oscars, today is one of the nominees
Hollywood woke up this morning with the full list of Oscar nominees to be presented at the 89th ceremony on February 26. One of the contenders is the actor, composer and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda, nominated in the musical category for Original Song with the song How Far I'll Go, of the tape of Disney Moana. For an Emmy, two Grammy and three Tony, the Oscar nomination is not only important because it is the first of these prizes, but also because it is the only statuette it needs to complete the famous EGOT. The achievements to date won by only 12 people, among them Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg and the director Mike Nichols.
While thousands of people were watching the nominees, Lin-Manuel was working in London in the sequel to Mary Poppins and through a phone call he learned that his name now stands as one of the Oscar nominees. "I was in my fight watching a repeat of the Australian Open this morning. I still do not know if Federer is going to win, but he is doing very well," Miranda said in a very good mood to Entertainment Weekly.
Confused by the hour, the composer noticed a call on his phone. "I did not know when they would announce the nominees because I'm too bad for math." The cell phone started vibrating and that's when I heard it, "he said, still excited. And of course, after receiving the good news, Lin-Manuel already knows how he will celebrate. "I suppose I'll toast something bubbly with my wife when I get home after work tonight. I think it's the craziest thing I'll ever get!" He continued with a laugh.
Perhaps his feast is simple, but in his mind, this great achievement transports him to his childhood and youth years, when he recorded the deliveries of the Oscars and later learned from memory the musical monologues of Billy Crystal. "I used to record them every year, I'm very excited to be able to attend the party," he said.
Lin-Manuel competes in the same category in which La La Land - this year's favorite - occupies two nominations for Justin Hurwitz's songs Audition (The Fools Who Dream) and City of Stars, written by Justin Paul and Benj Pasek . "I've known Ben and Paul for years ... We share a lot of laughs and I'm happy to see their success.
