It's been more than two decades since she stepped on stage, but the Tex-Mex queen continues to win admirers.

Today marks 22 years since the tragic death of Selena Quintanilla, the greatest star of Texas music. However, her voice and legend continue to conquer hearts throughout the world.

Selena Quintanilla became one of the most prominent stars of Tejano music at a very young age. His father, Abraham Quintanilla, founded Selena and Los Dinos, the group that made his career take off. In 1989, the president of the Latin label EMI discovered her in one of her shows and decided to hire her. So that same year Selena released her first professional work, titled simply Selena. Then they followed her Come with me, Enter to my world and Live, some of her best selling albums.

Singing only in Spanish at the beginning, as she gained fame Selena began to make the crossover to the Anglo market. In 1993 she became the first artist of Latin origin to win a Grammy for Best Mexican-American Music Album. Her disc Love forbid contains some of her most famous hits, such as Bidi Bidi Bom Bom and I do not have any more. Two years later, the singer recorded her first album in English, Dreaming of You, which sold more than two million copies and reached number one on the charts.

Selena was at the cusp of fame when her life found a tragic end in 1995. Yolanda Saldivar, president of her fan club, killed her at age 23 for reasons that until now are not entirely clear. On April 3 of that year a large funeral was held to which people from different cities arrived. It was then that her myth was born, and the life of the legendary Selena was taken to the movies in a movie starring Jennifer Lopez. So much was her repercussion among the fans of the singer, that People magazine dedicated a commemorative number, thus creating People en Español.

Today, Selena's legacy continues stronger than ever. The renowned cosmetics brand MAC unveiled in the second half of 2016 to limited edition of makeup products inspired by the singer. She has also been honored at the renowned Flower Festival in Corpus Christi, Texas. It is also worth mentioning that over the years, many figures from the Hispanic world such as Gloria Estefan, Thalía and Carlos Vives have participated in posthumous tributes to the Tex-Mex Queen.

22 years after her death, Selena Quintanilla is the third Latin artist with more albums sold after Shakira and Gloria Estefan. In spite of the time, the singer continues being an inspiration for many, and although she had a tragic and unexpected end, Selena maintains a legacy that transpires generations and she maintains it so prevailing and popular as when she saw singing and dancing to the son of " Like the Flower "on stage.
