Trump approval rating reaches a low point

The Gallup poll found that only 40 percent of Americans approve the president's job so far. It disapproves 55 percent.

Approval ratings of President Donald Trump reached a low point this Saturday, according to a Gallup poll, as the new government has had difficulty in taking root less than a month after its inauguration.

The daily follow-up survey found that only 40 percent of Americans approve of President Trump's work so far, compared with 55 percent who disapprove. The 15-point negative differential is the highest recorded in the survey since Trump took office on January 20.
Trump's approval rating has remained at the 40 percent mark since the second week of its presidency, but the new poll suggests growing dissatisfaction with its performance amid the chaotic implementation of its controversial travel ban from seven developing countries. Muslim majority and a series of controversies in the confirmation of his cabinet.

Trump's low approval rating is atypical for a new president. Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton enjoyed more than 50 percent approval in Gallup follow-up polls during the early months of their governments.

The Gallup Presidential Approval Index is based on telephone interviews over a three-day period, averaging approximately 1,500 adults per day, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
