Meet Tom Perez, the new president of the Democratic Party

The new chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Tom Perez - who promised President Donald Trump that he would become his "worst nightmare" after being elected this weekend - knows what it's like to turn one Nightmare in a triumph.

When the Dominican extraction boy was barely 12 years old, his father died of a heart attack. From an early age, Perez had to work hard distributing three newspaper routes, picking up balls on a golf course and then paying for college, driving a garbage truck.
Decades later and within minutes of being elected Democratic Party president Saturday, Trump sent Perez a tweet with a very peculiar "congratulations": "Congratulations to Thomas Perez, who has just been appointed President of the DNC. I could not be happier for him, or for the Republican Party! "

Next, the 55-year-old attorney who was secretary of the job in the administration of President Barack Obama, told Trump: "Call me Tom. And do not get too happy. @ Keithhellison and I, and the Democrats united across the country, will be your worst nightmare. "
In his first words as president of the DNC, Pérez said that history will say that his party led "the resistance" against the Trump government and that they have become a "short-term" president.
Pérez obtained 235 votes in favor, out of a total of 447, in the second round of voting for the presidency of the DNC. After being named leader of the Democrats, he proposed that Keith Ellison, his adversary in this vote and congressman for Minnesota, be appointed as the party's vice president. He had obtained 200 votes and his proposal was unanimously accepted.
