British government rejects popular plea against Trump state visit

The British government reiterated Tuesday that it will receive US President Donald Trump despite a popular plea that the president is to make a state visit to the United Kingdom.
Through a statement issued by the British Foreign Office, said that Trump will be received with the deserved courtesy.

The government "acknowledges the views expressed by those who signed the petition, but does not support this petition," and assures that the invitation, made by British Prime Minister Theresa May to the magnate last month, "reflects the importance of Relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom, "the statement added.
More than 1.8 million people signed the request to the Executive to cancel the invitation to the magnate or to degrade to a level below that of "state visit," considering that the visit would cause "shame to His Majesty the Queen II] ".

According to British law, once a petition exceeds 100,000 signatures the matter must be dealt with in parliament, so it will be discussed next Monday in the House of Commons.
Also on the table will be a parallel petition, with 310,000 signatures, in support of the invitation to the President of the United States.

May reiterated Tuesday in a telephone conversation with Trump his desire to receive him in London, a government spokesman said.

While it is common for all US presidents to make a state visit to the United Kingdom - which includes being received by the Queen and receiving all honors - at some point in her term, this is usually at the end of her stay at White House, according to the British press.
